Mixed media kortteja

Sain olla mukana tilaisuudessa, jossa sain vetää toisille luoville ihmisille lyhyen askaeteluhetken. Teetin porukalla Mixed Media kortteja, joissa käytimme kierrätysmateriaaleja, mm vanhoja kirjansivuja ja vanhoja pitsejä. Tässä omat mallikorttini, joihin testasin tekniikkaa ennenkuin esittelin systeemit muille.

Covid-19

 Tässä on jo toinen koronapandemiateemainen art journal aukeama, jonka teen. Tätä asiaa tulee koko ajan joka mediasta, väkisinkin se puski läpi ajattelusta arttiin. Jokainen kun omalta osaltaan tekee parhaansa ja noudattaa terveysviranomaisten ohjeita, niin ehkä tämä poikeustila vielä joskus loppuu...

This is my second art journal spread inspired by news and all the information that media continuously tells us. This tiny virus has messed up whole world...  If everyone would try their best, protect their selves and others, maybe some day this will end and we get back to normal life...

Participating Try it on Tuesday challenge "Words or numbers" - I'm sorry the words are in Finnish, mainly the theme is wash your hands, keep social distance, stay home. Stop Covid-19. 

Stripes and patterns

Art Journal Journey September theme is Polka-Dots, Stripes, Plaids or Patterns.
This art journal page has been developing very long time, i have added leftover paints, paper strips and mediums to it. I was thinkint to add a pig picture or something in it... but then i realized that sometimes less is more and left it to rest. I think that this is finished now.

Art jounal sivu, jota olen pakertanut pitkään -olen lisännyt tälle sivulle ylijäämäpapereita ja maaleja muista projekteista. Ajatuksissa oli lisätä siihen vielä jokin iso kuva, mutta halusin sittenkin jättää valkoisen taustan kunnolla näkyviin.

Mustavalkoista

Tämä mustavalkoinen atc setti on ollut kehitteillä pitkään. Tuhat kertaa olen miettinyt jonkun värin lisäämistä näihin, mutta oikeaa sävyä ei vaan löytynyt. Olkoon siis harmaan sävyissä 😁

This black&white atc set has been developing for a while... Thousand times been thinking of adding some color, but did not find the right tone. Now I give up, fifty shades of grey is enough 😁

Mermaid and flowers

My friend ordered a confirmation card for her lovely daughter. She hoped me to do for her mixed media style card, witch included mermaid, pastel pink and pastel blue/turquoise. Pastel colors are usually out of my comfort zone, but this time i did not get anxious at all, because the theme was so inspiring. Base layer i did with Prima heavy gesso and stamped to wet gesso with mermaid and seashell stamps. Flowers and pearls are attached with prima 3d gel medium. Painted with watercolors. I used also some chameleon wax to get parts of the card shine, but you cant see the shine in pictures. So here it is, i hope that it will bring joy to the beautiful girl who got it 💗 Participatinc to More Mixed Media: AG with optional pastel with this one.

Ystäväni tilasi rakkaalle tyttärelleen konfirmaatiokortin. Kortin piti olla mixed media-tyyliä, pastellin pinkin ja sinisen sävyissä, ja mieluusti olla jotenkin merenneitoaiheinen. Tein pohjakerroksen valkoisella heavy gessolla ja leimasin märkään gessoon simpukoita ja merenneidon pyrstön. Kukat ja helmet liimasin 3d gel mediumilla. Pastellisävyt ovat vesivärejä. Lisäsin lopuksi chameleon-vahaa kiiltoa tuomaan, mutta se ei valitettavasti näy kuvissa kunnolla. Toivottavasti kortti tuottaa iloa kauniille neidolle, joka sen sai 💗

Tein nämä ATC-kortit kierrätysmateriaaleista: pohjana on muropakkauksen pahvi, ja kuviot on korvakoruja valmistavan tuttavani leikkuujätettä/hylkyyn menneitä korun osia ( https://www.facebook.com/ennikkikorut/ ) Päälle Prima Marketingin mustaa gessoa,  Dylusionin helmiäissuihkeita ja kulta/hopeavahaa.

I did these cards from recycled materials. Base layer is from cereal package. The figures are cutting waste and failed parts  i got from my friend who makes earrings from plywood. I covered all with Prima Marketing Black heavy gesso and added Dylusion shimmer sprays and gold/silver wax.

Testailin huhtikuun alkupuolella Nannalta ostamaani Studio Lightin leimasettiä ja löysin Paper Gardenin ajatelmatarroista juuri aiheeseen sopivat sanat. Tosi mukavaa, kun näitä mietelauseita on saatavana myös suomeksi! Tarran läpinäkyvyys antaa mahdollisuuden lisätä sen minkä väriselle taustalle tahansa. Sivu jäi tuolloin kesken, kun siitä minun mielestäni puuttui vielä jotain. Vihdoin eilen keksin doodlailla taustalle vielä valkoisia palleroita, nyt ei ole liikaa tyhjää tilaa. Nyt on valmis! 

At the beginning of April tested some of my new supplies -Girl stamp from Studio light and the Alice in Wonderland quote ("It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.")  is from Finnish craft supplies web store Paper Garden. They have quotes also in English and lot of beautiful vintage themed craft stuff.  I got stuck with the page, i thought that it still needed something. Yesterday i got the idea to doodle white circles to the background. Now this really is finished. 

I doodled circles so i participate to Birgit Koopsens #everythingcicles challenge in instagram.

Generation X

Olen kauan suunnitellut kokeilevani puolimärkään, paksuun gessoon leimaamista. Näin tekniikan jonkun art journal harrastajan instagram-sivulla. Tässä lopputulos. On todella haastavaa tietää, milloin gesso on riittävän, muttei liian kuivaa. Leimasin menee sotkuun, otinkin viereen vesiastian, johon leimasimen sai heti pudottaa, ettei gesso kuiva siihen.

Olin muutama viikko sitten pojan kanssa katsomassa Captain Marvel-elokuvan ja ihastuin ikihyviksi leffan ysärimeininkiin. Hyvää musiikkia ja ihania grungetyylin ysärikuteita. Kuulun niinsanottuun X-sukupolveen, eli niihin, joiden nuoruus ajoittui 80-90-luvulle. Elettiin ensin nousukautta ja sitten lamaa. Ysäri-eurodance ei niinkään kiinnostanut, vaan vauhdikkaiden teinivuosien taustamusiikkina soi 90-luvun alussa grunge. Tämä arttisivu syntyi taustamusiikkinaan mm. Nirvana, Green Day, Garbage, Guano Apes, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Metallica...

I have been planning for a long time to try stamping on a half-dried gesso page. I saw the technique somewhere on Instagram. It was quite hard to know when the surface is not too wet, but not completely dry. Stamping was messy, i had water pool beside me so i could wash the stamp immediately.

Few weeks ago I was at movie theater with my son watching Captain Marvel, and got exited about movie music and 90´s grunge style clothing as it reminded me of my teenage. I belong to so called X-generation -those who were kids and teenagers at 80´s and 90´s. I was never so fond of 90´s dance music, i preferred grunge style heavy metal and rock music. While doing this art journal page i listened to Nirvana, Green Day, Garbage, Pearl Jam, Guano Apes, Aerosmith, Metallica...

Dream In Darkness Challenge 

Spread in my altered book: Prima heavy gesso, Tattered angel green glimmer mist, different tones of green and brown watercolors, black archival ink with two different stamps (other carved by myself), black acrylic pen and white gel pen. Letters are dabbed and embossed with Stampendous black embossing powder. Pictures are from rock outfit catalog.

Hyvää Pääsiäistä! Happy Easter time!

Pääsiäinen lähestyy ihanan aurinkoisissa ja keväisissä merkeissä. Aurinko paistaa ja melkein kaikki lumi on jo sulanut. Krookuksetkin heräilevät kukkapenkissä.... ihana kevät!
Tokmannilla myytiin täytettäviä pahvimunia, joitta on vintagehenkinen pääsiäispainatus. Vaan eipä kelvannut minulle, joten tuunailin munan uuteen kuosiin. Vein sen tänään työkavereille, suut makiaks 😀

Easter is coming and we are having very springish weather: sun is shining and almost all of the snow is gone. Today i saw that crocus flowers are starting to grow in my garden. I just love spring!
I found cardstock eggs from the market near us. They are refillable and had quite nice vintage-themed Easter pictures on them. But i could not help it, i just had to alter the egg with mixed media style. I filled the painted egg with goodies and took it to work to make my colleagues happy 😀

Make Art for Art´s sake

Eräs tuttavani tiedusteli syytä mixed media- ja art journal innostukseeni. Vaikea kysymys! Tietenkin rentoutuminen askartelun äärellä on tärkeää, ja kroonisesti sairaana taiteilu on minulle myös terapiaa ja mindfulnessia. Mutta periaatteessa, tarvitseeko olla joku syy tehdä arttisivu, kanvas tai joku muu projekti... vai voiko olla niin, että prosessista nauttiminen on tärkeintä, ei se lopputulos? Tässäpä näitä mietteitä ja miettiessä syntynyt arttisivu. Gessoa, gel mediumia, modeling pastea, stone ja sand effect pastea, vesivärejä, gel press printtiä, akvarelliliituja... Rakastan mixed mediaa juuri siksi, että kaikki on sallittua 💓

My friend asked me, why am i so exited about my art journal and mixed media hobby. Tough question! Of course, relaxing is important part of my crafting. As i am chronically ill and have rheumatic pains, art journal and mixed media is also a mindfulness therapy for me. But do you really need a reason to make art journal spread, canvas or other mixed media project... or could the reason be just to enjoy the process? With these thoughts i made this spread. Gesso, gel medium, modeling paste, stone and sand paste, watercolors, gel press prints, watercolor crayons... I love mixed media just because you can mix everything, no limitations 💓
